almost a reason to keep serving

At some point during my service our master sergeant decided that when someone left the unit he should receive a flag and a plaque. Since for a number of years I was the oldest soldier in our unit, I knew that my turn was coming up, and I only half-jokingly claimed that until the flags and plaques ran out, I'd continue serving in the unit. I neither wanted, or had use, for these, though in the end, of course, I received them. I have absolutely no idea where the plaque is (though it must be somewhere in the house) and I've kept track of the flag basically because I've always intended to scan it one day.
