even on reserve duty

What probably differentiates the standing army from reserve duty in the minds of most soldiers is not having to get their hair cut and not having to fold their pants into elastic bands above their boots. Most of these soldiers are greatly disappointed to learn that even during reserve duty they're expected to use those elastic bands. I still have a collection of hair clips used for tieing my hair behind my head, and I haven't thrown out the elastic bands either.
