storing history

Tzippi came to Israel almost fifteen years after I did. Thing were already quite different. I'm quite sure that by then even institutions like the Sochnut were already using paper towels to dry the hands of workers and visitors (though of course Tzippi wouldn't have taken such a towel had she seen one).

There were still, however, Sochnut issued utensils, and she received some of these when she settled into her first program in the country.

Tzippi received at least one plate, one soup bowl and a cup - all plastic. She probably also received silverware, and a small aluminum pot for cooking. It seems that all that we've saved of these rather primitive utensils is the soup bowl, stuffed away in a cupboard, basically because I don't want to part with it. To my mind this bowl has less power to bring back memories than my towel does, but then again, it wasn't mine
