One of the means we have of getting Hila to thin out her collection
of items which she's outgrown is to convince her to pass something
along to the babies and small children in our community whom she
loves. After going through her extensive toy collection she decided
that she could part with a small doll and car which she probably
hasn't played with in at least four years. She chose the family
to whom she wanted to pass it on, put it in a bag, and gave it to
the mother of two lovely small children.
But the next day she was despondent - she insisted that although she
hadn't played with that car in ages, she hadn't really wanted to part
with it. She wanted it back. Our attempts at convincing her that it
was a toy perfectly suited to younger children fell on deaf ears.
She decided to find another toy, a cloth frog (which I happened to
really like, but that's another story) and "trade" it for
the car.
And now the car is once
again in our home, sitting around unused, and only Hila knows the
secret of why she wants to keep it.
