Week 16:       July 4 - July 10, 1991

Throughout this pregnancy we've been reading all sorts of handbooks that tell us about what you're up to. That's important, since though you're most definitely there (we've agreed on that fact numerous times already, but somehow I find it reassuring to remind myself of it) we can't see you, and thus have to rely on outside sources in order to know just what's going on.

One of the books tells us that by this week you're "probably aware of - and may be startled by - sounds outside" of your mother's body. So this week we took you to the opera. To tell the truth, it was your mother and me that went, but you have little choice in the matter and go wherever she goes. We saw Mozart's The Magic Flute, and if the books are right, you heard the music. For us it was lovely and we hope that you enjoyed it too - and weren't too startled by it.

Did the Queen of the Night's aria from Mozart's The Magic Flute excite you and move you as much as it did me?
