Week 29:       October 3 - October 9, 1991

The books tell us that around now your head is more or less proportional with the rest of your body. By itself, taken strictly physiologically, that's an interesting little morsel of information. On the other hand, what it suggests psychologically is much more interesting. The truth is, nobody like a know-it-all whose head is too big for his shoulders, and even if you're going to be a child of mine, and undoubtedly exceptional (whatever that may mean), I'm glad to know that before you're born you've gotten back down to size a bit. After all, you're not the first fetus to go through a pregnancy (by a long shot) and it's really not very proper for you to get too proud about that.

It's relieving to know that your head is now proportional with the rest of your body. Nobody likes a kid with a swelled head, even if he's got good reason to be proud.
