an electric typewriter?

When I first came to Israel I carried a suitcase in one hand, and my father's U.S. Army issue portable Royal typewriter in the other. I used that typewriter for years, and I have to admit that I find it strange that I haven't been able to find it. It's not the sort of machine that I would have thrown out, though perhaps I did.

I used numerous typewriters between that portable Royal and my first computer. This particular "portable" electric typewriter was a clunky dinosaur that worked on 120 volts and needed an enormous step-down transformer to work. When I typed on it my entire (rather massive) desk shook. I can't really write that I ever grew particularly attached to this machine, though it certainly served me well. It was functional, which I suppose should be taken as a compliment, but hardly more than that. I saved it for many years, but had little difficulty parting with it now.
