Letters from the Iran War - 2026

This evening an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed on a house in Kibbutz Shomrat. I don't know if it was from Lebanon or from Iran, but it's worth noting that this isn't a simple drone. They're usually armed. No one was injured (the family was in its safe room) but there was apparently significant damage to the house. For rather obvious reasons this generated quite a bit of discussion on the Ken Nirim WhatsApp group. There was also a direct hit of a missile to a building in Haifa, and there a couple of people were injured, and as I write this there are apparently four people buried in the wreckage who haven't yet been found. Of course in the rest of the north the day hasn't been quiet, and there were a couple of alerts to the middle of the country. By us it's been quiet.

In general Easter Sunday is uneventful in Israel, and it was hardly noted today, though we did see Trump's Truth Social tirade that he started his morning with. This message was very different from his pre-Easter recorded message in which we learned that he's apparently deeply religious. (I guess I should also link here to his Passover greeting, in which he noted that the exodus from Egypt was "an amazing period of time", and he added that now is as well. I'd write that these pronouncements offer a bit of comic relief in these terrible times, but I'm having a hard time laughing.
And since it was, for us, an uneventful day, I can keep this short.
