promising, but not much more than that

I suppose that more than any other item I've saved, this laser printer gives the lie to my claim that I've been behind the curve technologically. As soon as relatively cheap laser printers hit the market I knew that I had to have one. The problem was that this one was a little too cheap. I later learned that printers of this sort don't really adapt well to being used with step-down transformers. At the time I only knew that although my print-outs from this machine were (though black and white) wonderful, it gave me more trouble that it was ultimately worth. That's often the price you pay for wanting to be ahead of the curve. And of course while I thought I was keeping ahead, I was being outflanked from the side by people who realized that ink-jet printers were becoming easier to use, were cheaper, and gave even better quality output. It took me quite a while until I again caught up.
