some back and forth (after letter #3)

I awoke this morning a few minutes ago to seeing this for the first time. It’s not that it hasn’t happened before, but I’ve not seen it on the list (and I check regularly).

My reply:
Yup, that's pretty much us. We heard a slightly distant siren, but Tzippi got a head's up on her app. She was trying to catch a nap and I had earphones on and she had to call me to move to our SPS where we spent a few minutes, hearing at least one Iron Dome interception not far from us.

Mark again:
What’s not clear from my app: how many rockets land? The name of the town listed is based on the expected trajectory of the rocket, correct?

and me again:
That's right. The app, and the sirens, are basically heads ups telling us to seek shelter. Iron Dome only tries to intercept those that it computes will reach places where people live or work rather than open fields or areas.

Again Mark:
What actually lands, and where, only gets reported if a rocket succeeds in hitting something. (We do get reports along the lines of "a rocket fell in an open field with no damage to person or property".) Debris also lands after interceptions. This can also do damage, though considerably less than an actual rocket hit. I know that some debris has fallen on Hatzor and I'm trying to get some of it, or at least photographs of it, for the archives.

And, for Libbe’s geographical bearings:

Me:
Thanks. And for a bit more information, I'm measuring the distance from Gan Yavne to my house on Hatzor (as the eagle flies). I could choose a number of locations as a starting point for measuring, so I've chosen the spot on Mark's map at the very bottom of the "V" in Gan Yavne:

jay-map

The distance is 1.86 kilometers, or 1.16 miles.

The supermarket marked on that map is where we bought groceries yesterday. Via crow flying it's closer to us (1.68 kilometers, 1.04 miles), but farther via the roads.

Libbe chimes in:
thanks for these specifics - I was just looking at maps. kibbutz is between Gan Yavne and 'secret air force base'

and now Jay's specifics. the whole business was horrible before it was so close, and now ....
where are Eitan and Hila now?

My reply:
Eitan presently lives in Hatzor. He had plans for all sorts of other things (mostly get-rich-quick schemes of various sorts) but while he's trying to get something moving with these he's also working at various odd jobs - building porches/decks, working in the fields, helping out an entrepreneur friends with concerts (when these are allowed). He's even doing some waitering at a restaurant. At the moment, however, he's in Rhodes (since Monday, until tomorrow) along with a friend (the entrepreneur) who organized a very cheap deal. Why not spend a few days at a hotel on a beach instead of being bombed. It makes sense. When he's on the kibbutz and there's an alert there's a neighborhood shelter about thirty meters from his apartment. He cleaned it about a week ago.

Hila is still in Hadera, about 90 kilometers away from us. At present she's outside of where rockets have been aimed, though she travels a lot, including to more dangerous areas. She thought she might come to us for Shavuot because her garin-mates were all going to their families, but she really wasn't looking forward to sleeping in a house without a shelter, it would have been quite a bit of travelling for a short visit, and she had other options. Instead we spoke on the phone, and we discuss a wide variety of issues almost daily via WhatsApp.

Libbe ends the exchange:
helpful, thanks.
