taking
a peek
I seem to recall that at
the outset we were instructed not to question what toothpaste we were
using. We were divided into two groups, both using tubes with non-descript
white covering, distinguished only by a different letter. But whether
or not we were instructed in that manner, I doubt that anybody really
expected us not to take a peek, even when doing so meant rather extensive
disfiguring of the covering of the tube.
Half of those of us in the study used Crest, while the other half
used something else - I'm not sure, but I think it was a generic fluoride
toothpaste developed by Colgate. I was later informed that the research,
conducted by Colgate, was instrumental in the development of Colgate
Total - a toothpaste I've never tried, and one that I assume is only
minimally different from the Crest that, over these last 13 years,
has become a habit by me.
